The venture capital firm has raised $1.3 billion across three new funds, sharpening its focus on artificial intelligence, fintech, and cross-border innovation. The majority of this capital will be deployed in India, reinforcing the country’s position as one of the world’s fastest-growing startup ecosystems.

For Peak XV, this marks a new chapter as a fully independent investment firm. For Indian founders, it signals fresh capital at a time when global venture funding remains cautious.

A New Era After the Sequoia Split

From Sequoia India to Peak XV

In 2023, Sequoia Capital reorganized its global structure into separate, independent regional firms. As part of that transition, Peak XV emerged as the standalone partnership covering India and Southeast Asia.

At the time of separation, Peak XV inherited $9.2 billion in assets across 13 funds, along with $2.5 billion in uninvested capital. The move allowed the firm to operate independently while maintaining its deep roots in the region’s startup ecosystem.

Now, with its new $1.3 billion capital raise, Peak XV is signaling confidence in its ability to chart its own path.

Managing Over $10 Billion in Assets

With the fresh funds added to its existing portfolio, Peak XV now manages more than $10 billion in assets.

That scale gives the firm flexibility to invest across multiple stages — from early seed rounds to growth-stage deals — and to support companies as they expand both locally and globally.

Breaking Down the $1.3 Billion Raise

Peak XV’s new capital is spread across three distinct vehicles:

  • India Seed Fund
  • India Venture Fund
  • An Asia-Pacific focused fund

The majority of the money is earmarked for India, while a portion will target broader opportunities across the Asia-Pacific region.

Investment Timeline and Strategy

The firm plans to deploy this capital over the next two to three years.

Seed investments are expected to reach up to $5 million per deal. Venture-stage investments will typically range from $5 million to $15 million, with some going as high as $20 million.

In addition to the newly raised capital, Peak XV will also rely on uninvested capital from its existing Growth fund. That combination strengthens its ability to back founders across different stages of company building.

According to the firm, this structure allows it to continue supporting “category-defining companies” — a strategy it has followed for two decades.

Why the Focus on AI, Fintech and Cross-Border Startups?

AI Momentum in India

The announcement comes at a time when India is positioning itself as a major player in artificial intelligence.

New Delhi is hosting the AI Impact Summit, drawing global technology leaders from companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. The event highlights the growing interest in India’s AI ecosystem.

As AI adoption accelerates across industries — from finance to healthcare to logistics — investors see enormous potential for local startups to build globally competitive products.

Peak XV’s emphasis on AI aligns with this broader momentum.

Fintech’s Continued Rise

India’s fintech sector remains one of the strongest in the world, fueled by digital payments infrastructure, rising smartphone penetration, and government-backed digital initiatives.

From lending platforms to wealth management apps and embedded finance solutions, fintech startups continue to attract investor interest.

Peak XV already has a significant presence in fintech through its portfolio. The new funds are expected to deepen that exposure.

Cross-Border Opportunities

The firm is also sharpening its focus on cross-border startups — companies that build in India or Southeast Asia but serve global markets.

With talent costs lower than in Silicon Valley and engineering depth rising rapidly, India-based startups increasingly target international customers from day one.

Peak XV sees this as a powerful growth opportunity, especially in sectors like enterprise software and SaaS.

A Competitive Investment Landscape

Peak XV’s announcement comes amid heightened competition among global venture capital firms for Indian opportunities.

At the same AI Impact Summit, General Catalyst revealed plans to invest $5 billion in India over the next five years — significantly expanding its prior commitments.

The message is clear: global investors see India as a critical growth market.

With over 450 portfolio companies across fintech, software, and consumer internet, Peak XV already has deep exposure. The new capital ensures it can continue competing aggressively for top deals.

Who Is Backing the New Funds?

Peak XV has not disclosed the names of its limited partners. However, it noted that many investors include leading nonprofit endowments and foundations.

Such institutional backing typically reflects long-term confidence in the region’s economic trajectory and the firm’s track record.

Institutional investors often look for managers with consistent performance and strong local networks. Peak XV’s two-decade presence in India and Southeast Asia likely played a key role in securing commitments.

What This Means for Indian Startups

For founders, the $1.3 billion raise is significant.

More Early-Stage Capital

Early-stage startups often face funding gaps during global downturns. Dedicated seed and venture funds help fill that gap, ensuring promising ideas can move from concept to scale.

Peak XV’s willingness to write seed checks of up to $5 million provides meaningful runway for early companies.

Long-Term Partnership

Because Peak XV operates across stages, founders can potentially continue working with the same investor as they grow from seed to growth rounds.

That continuity can be valuable in navigating complex scaling challenges.

Stronger Global Ambitions

With an APAC-focused vehicle in addition to India-specific funds, Peak XV can help portfolio companies expand regionally and globally.

This cross-border approach reflects how modern startups operate — building locally while targeting international markets.

The Broader Outlook for Venture Capital in India

Venture capital funding in India experienced fluctuations over the past two years as global economic conditions tightened. However, long-term fundamentals remain strong:

  • A large and growing digital consumer base
  • Expanding middle class
  • Strong engineering talent pool
  • Government-backed digital infrastructure

Investors appear to be recalibrating rather than retreating.

Peak XV’s raise suggests that major firms still believe in India’s long-term innovation story.

A Defining Moment for Peak XV

The $1.3 billion capital raise is more than just a financial milestone. It represents a statement of independence.

After separating from Sequoia Capital, Peak XV is proving it can attract significant investor backing on its own.

By focusing on AI, fintech, and cross-border companies, the firm is aligning itself with sectors expected to shape the next decade of growth.

Over the next two to three years, how effectively Peak XV deploys this capital will determine the impact of this new chapter.

For now, one thing is clear: India’s startup ecosystem just received another powerful boost — and the race to back the next generation of category-defining companies is accelerating.
